14 minutes by railPrivate dayBorder-to-border help

Shenzhen sits right on Hong Kong’s doorstep — as little as 14 minutes by high-speed train. Yet it feels like a completely different country: newer, faster, cash-free and almost entirely in Chinese. A private day tour is the easiest way to experience it.

I prepare the practical route, meet you on the Shenzhen side, guide and translate throughout the day and return you to the crossing in good time. I also send the recommended cross-border connection for you to confirm and pay directly with the carrier.

Getting across the border

There are three easy ways to cross from Hong Kong to Shenzhen:

  • High-speed rail — West Kowloon to Futian/Shenzhen North in about 14–23 minutes.
  • MTR to the border — East Rail line to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau, then walk through immigration.
  • Futian / Huanggang checkpoint — quick crossings closer to central Shenzhen.
Visa check first. Through 31 December 2026, many EU, UK and Canadian passport holders enter mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days. Other nationalities may need a visa or a Shenzhen-specific entry. I confirm the current rule for your passport before we set a date — see the preparation guide.

Day tour from Hong Kong — FAQ

How long does the border crossing take?

Usually 15–40 minutes depending on the checkpoint and time of day. I’ll tell you the fastest option for your hotel and the day of the week.

Do I need a separate visa just for Shenzhen?

It depends on your nationality. Many visitors now qualify for 30-day visa-free entry to mainland China through the end of 2026; others may need a visa. I check your specific case before we finalise the plan so there are no surprises at the border.

Will my Hong Kong SIM and Octopus work?

No — mainland China is a different system (and many Western apps are blocked). I help you set up an eSIM and Alipay/WeChat Pay so you’re connected and cashless from the moment you cross.

Can we do this as a family?

Yes — the day rate covers up to four people. Larger groups on request.

Does the €220 include train tickets, meals or admission?

No. The fee is for preparation and personal guiding. I recommend the practical connections and attractions; you choose and pay the carrier, restaurant or ticket provider directly.

Want more than a day?

Combine Shenzhen with Hong Kong and Macau on the three-city private tour, or fold it into a longer custom China itinerary. First read the Shenzhen travel guide to see what’s worth your time.
